On any given week there are hundreds of shows to see in New York City. It’s impossible to hit all of them, so the experts on the My Social List team will be hand-picking their “can’t miss” artists for the week.
Who They Are: Hailing from Vermonth, their Facebook profile notes, “we were all born in a bathtime suicide mission. nothing was left but a pair of sunglasses that are still bleeding to this day. at the stroke of midnight you can hear them sing out of desperation.”
What They Sound Like: Joyful and yet wistful, they craft jangly lo-fi pop tunes, imagine if Bee Thousand-era Guided By Voices were hippies.
What They’re Up To: Mexican Summer just released their self-titled album on the 15th of October. Aside from that, there’s a fairly daunting back catalogue of songs from various sources, but their official website is a good start.
Essential Listening: The previously mentioned self-titled release on Mexican Summer. Also, Tastes the Broom, which is really a compilation of sorts.
Here is Everybody Knows About Daddy from the aforementioned self-titled collection.
