Artist to Watch: Brick Mower

On any given week there are hundreds of shows to see in New York City. It’s impossible to hit all of them, so the experts on the My Social List team will be hand-picking their “can’t miss” artists for the week.

Who They Are: Eric, Kristin and Steve have been bashing out music as Brick Mower since 2009, they are from New Brunswick, NJ and have toured almost every state in the US, playing hundreds of shows along the way.

What They Sound Like: Self-described as “Living Room Punk”, which is hard to fault. Brick Mower fit nicely into that slightly hard to separate punk/rock/powerpop space, the songs are raw and suffice to say they are perfectly at home on Don Giovanni alongside contemporaries Worriers, Upset, Vacation, Shellshag, California X, Kicking Spit and Priests. They delivered one of the most instantly satisfying sets I saw in 2013 at Death By Audio in February.

What They’re Up To: They have just come out of the studio so album number three is hopefully set for an early 2014 release. This comes after last year’s, My Hateable Face, while their debut album, Under the Sink, was released on their own Viking On Campus label.

Where To See ‘Em: Head on down to Death By Audio on Monday the 6th of January to see them along with Timeshares, Signals Midwest and Broadcaster. They also play the Don Giovanni Showcase at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on the 8th of February (tickets are available now). Track upcoming Brick Mower shows HERE.

Essential Listening: Here’s Stuttering from My Hateable Face, and if you like this then just go out and buy everything you can because there’s more where it came from.
