On any given week there are hundreds of shows to see in New York City. It’s impossible to hit all of them, so the experts on the My Social List team will be hand-picking their “can’t miss” artists for the week.
Who They Are: Nathan Hewitt (vocals, guitar), James Wignall (guitar, vocals), Dean Reid (bass, vocals, producer) and Marc Raue (drums) formed in London, England. That doesn’t tell the whole story though as Nathan is from Canada, Dan is from San Diego and Marc is from Germany, only James is British!
What They Sound Like: Something a little closer to home for me (Oxford, England), rewind the tape about 25 years to what is probably the least appreciated musical city of the UK. The one that gave the world Swervedriver and Ride, you can definitely file Cheatahs in that category; grandson-of-mustang-ford, if you will. The guitars have a metallic crunch and a bit more bottom end to them but also know when to soar.
What They’re Up To: After a couple of EPs in 2012, Cheatahs have just released their self-titled debut album on Wichita Recordings (whose roster includes MSL favourites Los Campesinos!).
Where To See ‘Em: Tonight at Baby’s All Right along with another MSL-endorsed band, Eternal Summers, rounding off the bill is Little Racer who open the show (tickets). Track future Cheatahs shows here.
Essential Listening: Latest single, Get Tight, shows off their talents as good as any, whilst my choice cut would be The Swan.
